Is it Possible?

Well lets start off this blog with a simple question...... lets see if I get any answers :)

Is it possible for someone to become less intelligent over time?

There is a reason for this question. For those of you who know me, I graduated high school with a diploma in French immersion. I took a total of thirteen years of school in which every class I took was in French (with the obvious exception of English) and yet, it took only 2 or 3 years after I finished high school to forget most of what I learned. While I was in college my sister was just finishing high school herself and she graduated with her diploma in french immersion as well. While she was in school she used to laugh at my dismal recollection of the french language, while proclaiming that she would never forget what she has learned. Four year later both of us cannot speak the language we spent 13 years learning with any sort of authority.

I also attended 2 years of Bible college. There I was immersed in a culture of intense learning and academic excellence. I was required to produce an inordinate number of papers on a variety of Biblical academics. It as been 4 years since I left that environment and again, I struggle to grasp the most basic of theories presented.

To make matters worse, it took me this long to realize my intellectual decline. My Uncle John came out for a visit this past week and being around him for a couple of hours made my head hurt. Being an English major out of University and is now a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Regina, he loves to talk about all things relating to the Media, Politics and the decline of the English language. It only served to remind me that I should change my homepage from cfl.ca to something a little more mentally stimulating.

Anyways on a good note, I stumbled across this blog from an old college friend of mine, http://www.constantlyreadingfourquartets.blogspot.com/
Congratulations Matt on you marriage :)

As the old adage goes Adam. If you don't use it.. you loose it! If you lived in France... you'd be fluent.. you live in Western Canada, Alberta... not much use for French here. Your intelligence is not declining.. its just not getting used! So SpEAK!
